The University is committed to reducing its environmental footprint. This includes all areas of environmental impact from waste generated and energy used, to wider social corporate responsibility considerations. In order for this to happen, every student, member of staff and visitor to Edinburgh Napier must play their part and be aware of their own action
Current Information
Dr Bike and Travel Surgery support for staff. Offered by the Bike Station and the 'better way to work' project, free bike maintenance and free travel support, including free bus passes, bike loans and City Car Club membership will be available to all staff. Read the 'better way to work' page for more information or contact Jamie Pearson.
City Car Club. Staff can sign up for a free personal or business membership through the 'better way to work' initiative. For more information, and to get the code for free membership contact Jamie Pearson. Use of City Car Club vehicles is priced at £4.68 per hour and £0.22 per mile (inclusive of VAT). The cost covers everything including fuel and insurance.
Recent Success
Green Gown Awards 2011. The University was shortlisted in the Carbon Reduction category of the 2011 Green Gown Awards. The Awards, organised by the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges highlights environmental achievement and best practice in universities and colleges throughout the UK. Green League 2011. Edinburgh Napier gained a first class award through the 2011 People and Planet Green League survey. For more information visit the league table page.
Carbon Trust Standard. The University reduced carbon emissions, related to energy consumed and fuel used in University owned vehicles, by 19% between 1st August 2006 and 31st July 2009.
Queens Anniversary Prize. The Building Performance Centre was recently awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education.
Surveys
Biodiversity Survey. The year long survey has . By March 2012 we will have a full record detailing the biological quality of Craighouse, Craiglockhart and Merchiston. For more information, including monthly reports, visit the biodiversity section on this website.
Travel Survey. Thank you to all 1,409 staff and students for their time in completing our 2011 travel survey. We will publicise the results in March 2012. Winners of the John Lewis vouchers have been notified.
