COST Action FP1105

Understanding wood cell wall structure, biopolymer interaction and composition: implications for current products and new materials.

Events

COST Action FP1105 organise an ongoing programme of workshops and meetings.

For more information on any of the events, including the next scheduled one, please contact Professor Philip Turner.

About the project

The COST Action FP1105 has three main objectives:

  • Follow a systems biology approach to build our understanding of fundamental physical (self assembly) and biological processes that drive natural structures and biopolymer composition within the plant cell wall.
  • Use new knowledge to improve our understanding of the mechanical properties of the cell wall and how processes such as pulping, bleaching recycling, cell wall disintegration methods and ongoing tree improvement and biotechnology programmes impact both positively and negatively on structure and composition of the cell wall to support ongoing improvement in these areas of activity.
  • Use our understanding of self assembly processes to support the development of new biopolymer based materials.

How to join the COST Action FP1105

Anyone within a COST member state interested in joining the action can do so easily. Parties from non-COST member states may also participate.

Find out if your country is a COST member state that has signed the MoU.

If your country is on the list, email the Action Chair Phillip Turner and the Working Group Leader for the group you want to join. You will subsequently be contacted by email to confirm your participation in the Action.

If your country is a COST member state that has NOT accepted the MoU then you have until 30 November to contact your National COST coordinator and request that your country signs up to the Action. Until this date, approval of country participation is automatic. After this deadline the Management committee of the Action will have to approve a country's participation. Once this has occurred then the Action Chair can sign you up to the Action.

If your country is NOT a COST member state, please contact the Chair Phillip Turner. You will be asked to complete an online application and motivation letter. The application then has to be approved online by the Action management committee and COST Administration office. You will be notified of the outcome of the application once the approval process has been completed.

Members of non COST member states with near neighbour status with the COST office are eligible for funding to attend Action events. Reciprocal Agreement countries have their own funding sources. Participants from the rest of the world must finance their own participation in these activities.
