Driving

From the west take the M8 until you reach Hermiston Gait. Take the 3rd exit towards Edinburgh West, then stay in the left hand lane and take the first exit at the next roundabout. Follow this road through one roundabout, then exit the dual carriageway just after the BP garage (signposted Napier University).

From the south or east take the city bypass (A720) to Calder junction. Take the third exit, then follow this road through one roundabout. Exit the dual carriageway just after the BP garage (signposted Napier University).

Car parkOnly staff with a permit and authorised visitors are allowed to park on campus. Sighthill Bank has single and double yellow lines along most of its length. Broomhouse Road has restricted parking all day. If you do choose to park your car on the street then you do so at your own risk. If you do not have an Edinburgh Napier parking permit it is advisable to use public transport to get to the campus.

Student permit applications can only be accepted where availability allows. Please note that there is no automatic guarantee that students will be allowed to park at any campus, as the permit scheme allocation is designed primarily for staff and disabled students.

Oopportunities for car sharing are available through City of Edinburgh Council's Tripshare website, and we have two City Car Club vehicles on site. Park and ride facilities are available throughout Edinburgh, including Hermiston Gait and Newcraighall Train Station.

Cycling

Cycle routes can be found to the north and south of the new campus, and there are 170 designated cycle parking spaces at Sighthill. 100 of these are under cover in locked storage areas. For a key to the facility please email Security. Access to showers will be available within the sports facility for cyclists, from January 2011.

More details on bike paths can be found on The City of Edinburgh Council website or from SPOKES, a local cycling charity who produce excellent maps. The CycleStreets website can help you plan your cycle journey, and you can even filter for quieter routes.

Trains

Edinburgh Park, South Gyle and Wester Hailes train stations are all within close walking distance to Sighthill. Open each train station link for more information on the station, as well as services that stop at each station.  For many services, you will have to change trains at either Waverley or Haymarket. The Journey Check website, linked to Scotrail, shows departure and arrival times from all train stations.

TramsArtist's impression of a tram

A tram system is currently under construction in Edinburgh, which will run from the airport via the city centre and on to the Newhaven / Waterfront area. There will be a tram stop at Bankhead, approximately five minutes’ walk from the campus. The journey time from Princes Street to the Bankhead stop is approximately 16-18 minutes.

For more information on trams please visit the Edinburgh Trams website.
