New Workshop for Staff-----Equality Essentials

Staff can now sign-up for a new highly-interactive diversity workshop called 'Equality Essentials' which replaces Diverse Possibilities. The workshop has been developed to take account of the changes brought in by the Equality Act 2010 and is relevant for all staff.

The workshop is designed to provide a safe space for staff to reflect on who they are as individuals and how this may have a bearing on the way they deliver teaching or frontline services. As this workshop is run collaboratively with local partners, you will also get a chance to discuss issues with staff from other institutions. At the end of the workshop you should have a clearer understanding of:

- how to explore and, where appropriate, challenge the beliefs and assumptions that people make on a daily basis

- explore labels/ categories and the negative impact they can have

- hear/explore personal experiences of people/groups who have been discriminated against and the coping mechanisms they use to minimise the impact

- equality legislation and what this means for you in the workplace.

This is a highly interactive workshop that makes use of TurningPoint as a way of exploring your ‘inner self’ and how this may manifest itself in the workplace. Use is also made of visual media to understand in a fun and non-confrontational way how minority groups try to “fit into” dominant or majority cultures. You will also be given groupwork scenarios to help you understand what the law says you must or must not do.
