Merchiston
Campus for Faculty of Engineering, Computing & Creative Industries
Edinburgh Napier University is investing £100m in an estate strategy to provide students and staff with some of the very best teaching and learning facilities in Scotland.
Following the successful redevelopment of Sighthill Campus and completion of the Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences' move there, we are now looking to imporve the last of the three campuses in our portfolio - Merchiston campus.
The revamp will create a new reception complex facing on to Colinton Road, which will also provide bespoke gallery space to display student work.
The plans also include the development of new sound-proofed, state-of-the-art music studios to the rear of the campus.
The new studio space will accommodate students and staff moving from the University’s Craighouse Campus, which the University has sold but will continue to occupy until mid 2013. Internally, the format and layout of some other teaching rooms is also being altered to meet the needs of the University’s Faculty of Engineering, Computing & Creative Industries.
We aim to place appropriate groups of staff and students as close to each other as possible. A lot of the work that will be going on will be in the spaces which were left when the Faculty of Health, Life & Social Sciences moved to Sighthill. Once the project is complete the University will have one faculty per campus
Pending planning approval, the improvement works will take place between January 2012 and early 2013. RMJM, the architects responsible for the recent redevelopment of the university’s Sighthill Campus, have designed the upgrade.
An information event is being scheduled at the campus over the next few weeks to give members of the public an opportunity to view the proposals and ask questions of the design team. This event will be widely publicised in advance around the local area.
