Water

The University uses 50,000,000 litres of water per year. This emits 22 tonnes of carbon, equating to 0.20% of our total annual emissions (information from 2009 Carbon Management Plan). We will, as far as possible, reduce our water consumption in-line with our overall carbon emissions reduction of 25% by 2013 (from 2006/07 levels).
Most of the water used is at Merchiston, with Craiglockhart and Craighouse following behind. There are many initiatives in place to conserve water, including Smart Metering and water saving devices to urinals and toilets.
Staff and Students are encouraged to report all water leaks by calling (0131) 455 5000 immediately.
