The Ian Kay Scholarships
The Scholarships
The Ian Kay Scholarship Fund will be used to provide scholarship to help Chinese students to study at Edinburgh Napier University, and to help students from Edinburgh Napier University to study in China. The Ian Kay Scholarships are available at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
In the initial period, the Beijing Scholarship Committee, which will determine awards, will offer scholarships as follows:
- Up to £10,000 per year towards the costs of a student coming from China to undertake a one year postgraduate degree programme at the University.
And/or:
- Up to £9,000 per year for three years for an undergraduate student from China wishing to study at the University.
And/or:
- Funding all or part of the costs for an Edinburgh Napier student to undertake a course of study in China.
Once a candidate has been selected for an award, the level of the Scholarship will be carefully judged bearing in mind the student’s educational fees and living costs.
Why Donate?
Ian Kay spent 11 years in China (initially with General Accident/Aviva, and latterly with the European Union Chamber of Commerce), Ian was always keen to ensure that friends, colleagues and strangers alike would feel special and included in any situation. He was unfailingly willing to spend time and effort to help them achieve their goals.
An honourable and pragmatic man, Ian would feel incredibly privileged to lend his name to these scholarships. Ian’s link with Edinburgh Napier started in Scotland when his daughter, Sarah, graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in the late 1980s. The Chinese link came after a chance meeting with a representative of Napier University in China in 1997. Since then, Ian has taken an on-going interest in Napier and the work it is doing to forge academic links with Chinese Universities, preparing young people for their future careers.
Edinburgh Napier University is amongst the most highly achieving in Scotland. A donation to the Ian Kay Scholarship Fund will allow more young people to increase their knowledge and to develop their skills while bridging the east-west cultural gap. The pool of such potentially effective employees in the international world of business is still quite small; therefore any donation will not only commemorate a very special man but will provide useful people for your business.
Donor Recognition:
The Beijing Scholarship Committee and the University appreciate that recognition of a donor is a personal matter, and are open and flexible to any acknowledgement the donor may feel appropriate.
All donors to the fund will be informed annually as to the recipients of the awards. The opportunity to recognise the award recipients at an annual event in Beijing is also being looked into.
