Edinburgh Napier University Development Trust
A separate legal entity from Edinburgh Napier University, the Development Trust is responsible for ensuring accountability and transparency in relation to our fundraising. Trustees ensure that the wishes of the donor are always respected, and that the money we raise is spent in the most effective way possible to achieve our stated aims. Trustees are brought together from both inside and outside the University - details of the current membership can be found below.

A former Chairman of the Edinburgh Napier University Court, Sir Ronald is also former Chairman of Dawson International plc. He has been involved with the Development Trust, as Vice Chairman, since its inception, and took on the role of Chairman in 2003.
Dr Lindsay Stewart OBE (Treasurer)
One of Edinburgh Napier's staunchest supporters, Dr Lindsay Stewart has been involved with the University since the 1980s when he was Managing Director of Ethicon Ltd. He has supported the University through many developments, joining the governing body in 1985, and serving as Chairman of the Court of Napier University in 1996 and 1997. He serves on the Business School Advisory Board, and became Trustee and Treasurer of the Napier University Development Trust in 2002.
Ms Margaret Stephenson MSc CEng CITP MBCS PGDip MCouns MBACP
Margaret was born and educated in Edinburgh, attending James Gillespie’s School and continuing her education at Edinburgh’s Telford College, Napier College and Heriot Watt and Edinburgh Universities.
She spent most of her working life with PA Consulting, initially in the IS/IT field. As a director of IT business, she worked in a variety of industries from oil and gas to central government, and in 1996 became one of the founding partners of the Public Services practice. Margaret’s consulting work in the public sector was particularly focused on major change programmes, sourcing strategies, PPP and corporate function effectiveness. Her primary clients during this period were the Post Office, the NHS and the Department for Work and Pensions.
In 1998 Margaret was appointed to the role of Managing Partner, and in 2000 made a move within PA to the Energy practice to support the integration of a US based consultancy acquired by PA. Her major clients during this period included Thames Water, BG Group and Scottish Water with a continuing focus on major change and corporate efficiency.
Margaret retired from PA in June 2004 to enable her to spend more time on her personal interests and, after returning to university life, qualified as a counsellor/psychotherapist. She now has a private psychotherapy practice in addition to carrying out voluntary work.
Mr Roger Miller
Roger Miller is a member of the family that owns the Miller Group. He retired in 1991 from all positions that he held with the group or its subsidiaries. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy, Harrow School and graduated a BSc (Civil Engineering) from University of Edinburgh. He is married to Jean and they have two sons and two daughters.
He has served as a member of the Napier University Court and was on the Development Sub-Committee that assisted Campaign Craighouse (the development campaign to raise funds for the refurbishment and occupation of Craighouse Campus in the mid 1990s).
Professor George Borthwick CBE
Professor Borthwick is a long-term supporter of the University and Chairman of the Edinburgh Napier University Court. He is the former President of Ethicon Europe and the former Managing Director of Ethicon Ltd UK, where he worked for 33 years.
He is currently Chairman of Scottish Busines in the Community and a member of the Scottish Higher Education Review Panel, amongst other senior advisory roles.
Sir Andrew Cubie CBE
A consultant at Fyfe Ireland LLP, Dr Cubie was Chairman of the Napier University Court until 31st July 2008. In addition to this, he holds a number of senior positions, including Chairman of the Scottish Credit & Qualification Framework, the British Council Scotland and RNLI Scotland, among others.
Dr Gerry Webber
Edinburgh Napier University Secretary, Dr Webber joined in 1997 as Director of Strategic Planning. He has contributed to several publications on the subject of Higher Education Management.
Professor Dame Joan K Stringer DBE
Professor Stringer became Principal & Vice Chancellor of Napier University in 2003. Prior to this she was Principal of Queen Margaret University College and formerly Assistant Principal of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. In addition to her role at Edinburgh Napier, she also holds a number of senior positions within other organisations, including Convenor of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations.
