Edinburgh Napier graduate nominated for coveted Cannes Festival award

Alumna and honorary graduate, film director Dr Lynne Ramsay had her second feature in competition for the highly coveted Palme d'Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. 

Lynne RamsayWe Need to Talk About Kevin is an adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s 2003  best-selling novel, a chilling tale about middle-class parents trying to understand the actions of their sociopathic teenage son.

It is funded by BBC Films, and stars Edinburgh Napier honorary graduate Tilda Swinton and John C Reilly.  The film is due to go on general release in the UK on 21 October 2011.

Lynne graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 1992 with a BA in Photography and went on to study Cinematography at the National Film and Television School. Her acclaimed debut feature film, Ratcatcher, was also nominated for the Palme d’Or.

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to film and the arts in Scotland, Lynne was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Edinburgh Napier University.
