Robert Louis Stevenson collection donated to Edinburgh Napier
The University has been donated a library of Robert Louis Stevenson books and related materials from Mr Gellius Leopold.
Mr Leopold’s grandfather began the collection in the early 20th century and his father, named Robert Louis Leopold, after the great author, continued the collection.
Gellius drove over from Leiden via the ferry to deliver the library to us as he wanted the collection to be in Edinburgh. The library will now form a special collection in the Merchiston library and adds to the growing portfolio of Stevenson activities underway at Edinburgh Napier’s Centre for Literature & Writing (CLAW) in the Institute for Creative Industries.
Professor Linda Dryden, Director of the Centre for Literature and Writing (CLAW) and editor of the Journal of Stevenson Studies, said: “We are delighted to receive this Robert Louis Stevenson collection from Mr Leopold. It will be a significant Stevenson library for a UK university and is a prestigious collection for Edinburgh Napier. It is another step in our growing Stevenson activities.”
