Santander Scholarship recipient profile - Vicky Rodner
Edinburgh Napier University is part of the Santander Universities network. Through this partnership Santander is funding scholarships, mobility awards and projects at the University.
The Scholarship provides support for the recruitment of postgraduate students from the 11 Iberamerican countries and mobility grants for travel to and from Iberamerican countries.
Vicky Rodner was one of the first Edinburgh Napier recipients of the Santander Mobility Scholarship.
A Venezuelan citizen with dual nationality, she is currently focusing on the marketing and branding techniques of contemporary artists in Venezuela for her doctoral thesis at Edinburgh Napier's Business School. Vicky used her grant in summer 2010, for a data collection trip to Caracas, Venezuela.
Vicky said: “I was delighted to receive the scholarship – it’s been an invaluable help for my research. Thanks to both the scholarship and Edinburgh Napier's support, I was able to carry out this research exercise that represents the core findings of my doctoral dissertation.”
“As a part time PhD student, I am currently in my 3rd year of study. I first came to Edinburgh Napier in 2003 and completed an MSc in Business Management with Entrepreneurship and have always felt an affinity with Edinburgh Napier, especially the Business School. I have thoroughly enjoyed my doctoral journey so far. In particular, I am grateful for the care my thesis supervisors, Dr Elaine Thomson and Dr Maktoba Omar, have given me, as well as the academic guidance and never ending challenges that Professor Matthew Turner presents in our supervisory meetings. My thesis supervisors have been very supportive of my professional development as an academic and I appreciate the opportunities I have been granted - I have really enjoyed teaching undergraduate and postgraduate tutorials.”
Vicky plans to give a conference of her Venezuela trip findings at the forthcoming Academy of Marketing Conference in Liverpool. After completing her thesis, she hopes to gain a lectureship position and continue specialising in her area of study.
