Professor Adams accepts Age Concern role
Professor John Adams from the School of Accounting, Economics & Statistics has been appointed as the Economic Policy Adviser to Age Concern Scotland (ACS).
Professor Adams said: “I’m delighted to be undertaking this role on behalf of Age Concern Scotland. The charity has never had an economic policy adviser and when the role was discussed I was more than happy to get involved.”
John’s appointment comes on the back of a report produced by himself and Professor Robert Raeside about the impact on pensioners of alternative Council Tax scenarios in the context of potential local income tax reforms in May of last year.
John’s appointment will see a partnership with colleagues from the School carrying out research projects for the charity. One of his first tasks will be to meet with Finance Secretary John Swinney along with ACS Chief Executive David Manion to discuss the scope for Council Tax reform in relation to the elderly and the proposed local income tax. The group will meet on the 13th January at Holyrood.
