Business Partnerships

The Business School maintains close relationships with business locally, nationally and internationally through a variety of strategic learning partnerships, links and networks.

These relationships cover a range of interventions from applied research, consultancy, and training, to joint programme development, internships, work based learning and graduate employment.

Key Business

Within the local economy, The Business School has worked with a variety of organisations in the public and private sectors, including the City of Edinburgh Council, Scottish Executive, Standard Life and the Royal Bank of Scotland. In addition, we liaise closely with many professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), The Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (CIOBS), the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the Institute of Structural Engineers (ISE) and the Personal Finance Society (PFS).

In fact, we have more professional body recognition for our programmes than any other Scottish Business School. Many of these links have been in place for a number of years and they have provided and continue to provide numerous mutual benefits.

We have always seen ourselves as having a key role to play in working with the business which is beneficial to organisations and to the local and national economies. This builds upon our reputation as a provider of vocational education and this has been reflected in our success in preparing our graduates for employment and highly successful careers in business and management. We also have developed a number of initiatives which contribute towards meeting the continuing professional development needs of organisations and address the lifelong learning agenda enabling individuals in full-time employment to participate in Higher Education.

Learning Partnerships

We work in close partnership with client organisations to identify their needs and then to identify interventions which benefit the business and also facilitate the professional development of their staff. With our partner organisations we are able to design interventions ranging from short development programmes through to fully accredited degree or diploma award bearing programmes, as our clients require. These can incorporate both work-based learning and substantial accreditation of both certificated and experiential prior learning can allow direct entry to our programmes at an advanced stage. Our capabilities in this area are internationally recognised. We are proud to have launched the Centre for Credit Rating which builds upon our extensive experience in accrediting in-house development programmes.

Flexibility in our provision is a key component of our delivery strategy. This has proved extremely attractive to the corporate world over the past two decades. Future developments will continue to respond to the ever changing needs of business.
