International Students

Edinburgh is an International City which offers a warm welcome to the many different nationalities who come to study and work here. It is a lively, diverse and vibrant city and one of the most beautiful in the world. Continually topping the list of European cities where people would most like to live, it is the home to the new Scottish Parliament, and hosts the largest international arts festival in the world.

There is no shortage of entertainment in the city with numerous theatres, cinemas, shops and bars as well as excellent sporting facilities. Edinburgh offers a range of restaurants to suit every taste and budget, and there’s a good supply of specialist food shops where you can get the food you’re used to – Halal, Chinese, Indian and many others. Edinburgh is a clean, compact and safe city, and is home to a large multicultural community where all types of religious worship are catered for.

As an international student attending Edinburgh Napier University, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the warmth and friendliness of the Scottish people and the country’s rich history, geography and culture. We’ll also do our best to help you settle in to your new home by providing information and assistance when you arrive and organising events where you can meet other international students.

How to Apply

All applications for full-time undergraduate study must be submitted online through UCAS. The closing date for applications is June 2010, though after this date you can still apply through Clearing.

We encourage students to apply before June as this will help you ensure that you have enough time to apply for your visa, which can take longer during the summer when immigration are busy, and make other travel and accommodation arrangements. We also welcome applications from students who have already undertaken some further or higher education in their own country and are looking for advanced entry to stage 2, 3 or 4 of a similar course at Edinburgh Napier.

If you are a non-EU student, have decided to apply only to Edinburgh Napier for one specific course, and you already have the necessary qualifications, you can apply at any time using a UCAS Record of Prior Acceptance (RPA) form. Please contact the International Office for details.

We accept a range of international entry qualifications for entry into Stage 1 of our courses (see related link below).

If your qualifications are not listed or you have a query about your entry qualifications, we’ll be happy to offer you help and advice before you make your application.

Edinburgh Napier has an office in China, and a network of agents in India, Norway, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and North America who can help with your application.

International Links

The Business School has long history of links with Universities worldwide and over the last few years, a sustained effort has been made to increase the level of internationalisation to reflect the ever-changing international business environment.

For more than a decade, we have had excellent links with two Universities in Hong Kong (City University and Hong Kong University SPACE) and these links go from strength to strength. After running several bachelor and masters degree programmes in Hong Kong on a part-time basis, we are now offering Edinburgh Napier’s first ever full-time programme in conjunction with City University – the BA (Hons) Marketing Management with Business Studies. In total, Edinburgh Napier has almost 1,000 students studying on Business School degree programmes in Hong Kong.

In mainland China, we have collaborative agreements with a number of institutions, under which students study at home in China for two or three years, then they come to Edinburgh Napier to complete their business degree. A number of these students choose to remain at Edinburgh Napier to continue their studies to Masters degree level.

EU-China Development and Research Centre

Professor John Adams, from the School of Accounting & Finance, was delighted to help launch the EU-China Development and Research Centre in Beijing at the end of 2003. The centre is a partnership of Higher Education Institutions, economic development agencies and business organisations representing both China and the EU. The organisation is an arm of Edinburgh Napier University and has been developed to provide and facilitate research services, academic expertise, consultancy services and contact information for economic co-operation between the EU and China.

We have also developed links with key research staff in the area of Festival & Event Management in Sydney and Perth, Australia and have a member of staff undertaking a research sabbatical in Canada. We also supervise PhD students from many different nations, some on a full-time basis, others remaining in their home country and coming to Edinburgh Napier for short blocks of time to meet their supervisors.

Modern business is a globalised activity, and therefore our students should also be multi-ethnic. That way, everyone in the academic community can be exposed to different cultures and different ways of doing business, and Edinburgh Napier can continue its long reputation of sending out business-ready graduates into the global community.
