Part-Time, Distance & Professional

At Edinburgh Napier University, we recognise that you may have commitments that mean you cannot study full-time. Our part-time or distance learning opportunities may be more suitable for you. All kinds of people do it for a host of reasons; Maybe you're already in full-time employment and looking for a step up the career ladder.

Perhaps you're aiming to improve your job prospects or simply add another string to your bow. Increasingly too, business professionals and employers are becoming more committed to the philosophy of lifelong-learning, and continuing professional development. Perhaps a professional qualification would help you to advance your career - or even to change career path completely.

Part-time and distance learning

Our Business School can help you fit studying into your busy life by offering you a range of part-time options or distance learning options, from a single module, right up to a Bachelor or Masters Degree. Part-time study involves you coming to the campus for a few hours each week. Distance learning does not normally involve attendance. Instead, we provide you with either paper-based or web-based learning materials, so that you can study where you like and when you like. However, we don’t leave you entirely on your own – you will also have a tutor who can offer help and support via email or telephone as you study.

In recognition of increasingly busy lifestyles, The Business School is working hard to make more study material available on a distance learning basis. Please visit our Courses by Attendance section if you would like to know what modules and degree courses are available on a part-time or distance learning basis.

Professional courses

The Business School at Edinburgh Napier University has enjoyed links with local employers and professional organisations for many years. Many Business School programmes are designed to ensure that you receive maximum exemption from the examinations of professional bodies.

This can work in a number of different ways, as shown in the examples below:

MSc Human Resource Management: The Edinburgh Napier Masters degree gives you full exemption from the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development’s examinations, and as well as gaining your MSc, you also become eligible for Membership of the Institute.

BA Accounting: successful completion of this Bachelor degree grants you exemption from several of the professional exams of the main Accounting Institutes.

Partnership Pathways: if you hold a professional qualification in Banking, Insurance or Independent Financial Advice, you can 'top up' your professional qualification to gain a BA (Hons) in Financial Services.

Edinburgh Napier University's Business School offers you the opportunity to work towards professional accreditation with the following bodies:

ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)

CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)

CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy)

CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing)
