The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is advertising a fellowship opportunity with the Government Equalities Office (GEO). The main objective of the project is to determine whether or not legislation, which has often been the default option used by Governments in the UK to address inequality and discrimination, is the most effective lever of achieving change available.

We are seeking someone to join the team at the Scottish Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology within Edinburgh Napier University, based at Colinton Road. We work with women across Scotland, helping them to develop their careers in Science, Engineering and Technology. This project is funded by the Scottish Government.
You will have responsibility within the team to develop and co-ordinate the Interconnect network for women students studying science, engineering, technology and built environment in Scottish colleges and universities. You will support students and student groups to facilitate employability events for women students, building links with women professionals and employers. You will also be responsible for the marketing and promotion of the Interconnect network using web and online communications.

SRC manager, Linda Somerville, was invited by STUC to take part in a round table session at the Scottish Parliament’s Equal Opportunities Committee on 21st February. The theme was Women and Work and the session will inform the committee for their forthcoming inquiry on women’s employment. Our colleague Allison Johnstone also individually submitted a letter regarding quality part-time work in Scotland.

The WINNET8 project's Good Practice Guide 2011 looks at Women's Resource Centres and other similar initiatives in eight EU member states – Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and the UK - who work towards counteracting horizontal segregation on the labour market and promoting women in technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. On a rare trip to the UK, we were fortunate enough to be granted an interview with former NASA Astronaut now Consultant, Dr Bonnie Dunbar. During her career with NASA (she retired in 2005), she logged more than 50 days in space and participated in five space flights.
