Dealing with Change
Professional Working | Manage Yourself
Purpose of this workshop
To develop the personal skills to respond to and manage change effectively.
People react to change in very different ways and this not only affects their own approach to it, but also how this impacts on others. This workshop will support you in understanding how you have reacted to change in the past and help you build some strategies to deal with change more effectively in the future.
Content of this workshop
Change is not something that is likely to ‘go away’; in fact, the rate of change in various areas of life increases with every passing year. In this workshop you will consider different classifications of change and the impact each one has. You will investigate the widely accepted theory that there is a psychological journey that change activates in each of us and how your own personal motivation and approach influences this. Finally you will explore the importance of effective communication in enabling you to embrace change more readily.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
- acknowledged how individuals react differently to change
- understood your reaction to past change and devised alternative strategies for the future
- developed skills and techniques to effectively manage your own and other people’s reactions to change
Benefits for students:
- support for the experience of ‘transition’ points e.g. starting university, leaving university and other personal events
- development of employability attributes that will help you demonstrate the ability to cope effectively with organisational change
- more confidence and resilience when dealing with all kinds of change
- a more proactive approach to making personal change
