Purpose of this workshop
To build an awareness of your impact on others and learn how to increase your persuasion power.
Success when working with others, whether on a group project at university, out on placement or in your future employment, is always achieved through your ability to work with and influence those around you. This workshop introduces the concept of professional relationships and the importance of recognising and nurturing these throughout your career. In this workshop you will explore how to maintain productive professional relationships, even in difficult situations. You will learn how to work with the effects of the positional power of those around you. You will understand how to draw on a range of influencing strategies in order to make yourself heard and to increase your impact when working with others.
Content of this workshop
In this workshop you will learn how to analyse the power dynamics which may define professional relationships. You will think about the scope of your own ability to influence others through relationship building and choosing appropriate strategies in interactions. The workshop gives you the opportunity to learn a range of skills and build attitudes that help you develop strong relationships and communicate ideas effectively.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
- identified the characteristics of successful professional relationships
- identified your preferred influencing style and the implications of this in different professional situations
- understood key influencing and other interpersonal strategies and their appropriate uses
