Professional Working | Working with Others
Purpose of this workshop
To develop your interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Have you ever wondered why some conversations or relationships don't work? Do you find yourself struggling with the same frustrating communication problems again and again? This workshop will help you to find out more about yourself and how you appear to other people. It will boost your confidence in interacting with other people, and provide you with techniques to help you express opinions and needs clearly and without conflict.
Content of this workshop
This workshop is based on Eric Berne’s principles of Transactional Analysis. It introduces the concept of the child, adult and parent ego states and the language and behaviours associated with these ego states. You will complete a questionnaire which allows you to see how you act and assess some of the key relationships you have according to this concept. You will then explore the implications of the ‘ego states’ and devise strategies to utilise the model in order to develop your communication skills.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
-
understood how your behaviour can affect the outcomes of your interactions with others
-
learned how you can choose behaviours which will enhance your communication skills
-
used this knowledge to develop strategies for building more productive relationships
Benefits for students:
-
preparation for placement or the workplace
-
enhanced communication skills to deal with multi-disciplinary or diverse needs settings
-
the ability to improve working relationships with other students, lecturers, customers, clients or patients whilst at University and in the workplace
