Learning opportunities

Free study day for newly qualified practitioners

As part of the Leadership in Compassionate Care Project, activities have been organised to support newly qualified nurses within their first year of registration within NHS Lothian & NHS Borders. New study days are being planned for 2010 and these will be provided in conjunction with NHS Lothian's Newly Qualified Practitioner Programme.

Newly qualified nurses will be sent invitations to attend the study day. We encourage newly qualified nurses to liaise directly with their managers in regard to gaining permission to attend. All newly qualified nurses, within their first year of registration are welcome to attend.

The study days consist of a motivational presentation, Flying Start activity, opportunities to discuss and reflect with peers experiences of being a newly qualified practitioner and learning about compassionate care.

Learning outcomes for study day

1. In response to hearing the experiences of others, consider issues of personal motivation, development and achievement.
2. Develop an enhanced understanding of care and compassion for patients, relatives and also for staff
3. Consider the opportunities and challenges (both personal and organisational) to providing care that is compassionate within your practice setting
4. Develop an enhanced understanding of the Flying Start programme
5. Identify methods and complete activities that enable progression through the Flying Start programme

Potential participants should contact Val Miller, vf.miller@napier.ac.uk or June McGregor, j.mcgregor@napier.ac.uk,  0131 455 5633 to book a place. Places will be allocated on a first come basis.
