This is one of the few courses offered at Masters level that encompasses renewable energy technologies as well as the essential related elements of renewable energy finance and environmental law. The course will extend your skills into various renewable energy technologies such as Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass, Wave, Tidal etc. At the same time, you will also study renewable energy capture, energy storage, energy audit and life-cycle analysis, as well as learning the concept of the system, design, development and applications. These skills will greatly enhance your employability in the industry.

The IOA diploma is run as a distance learning course through Edinburgh Napier University and ISC and is seen by many as a basic educational requirement for those starting out in a career in acoustics.
The course is run over a full academic year with students expected to study on their own with monthly tutorials offered by the Edinburgh Napier Centre. In addition the course also includes a laboratory block which requires the students to take part in week long residential tutorials at the IOA’s Laboratories in Liverpool.
The certificate is awarded through examination on the core subject material, dissertations and examination on two specialist modules and the production of a short project. The focus of the course work is to provide practical knowledge to the student that will be of use to them in their career as an acoustician.
The course covers general principles of acoustics with 5 specialist modules covering, Building Acoustics, Environmental Noise measurement prediction and control, Regulation and assessment of noise, Noise and vibration control engineering.
Normal entry requirements include an honours degree or postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience and achievement in a science or a relevant discipline. The IOA actively promote non-standard entry admissions onto the programme.

The Certificate of Competence in Workplace noise is run by the ISC through our links with the Institute of Acoustics, the leading professional organisation representing Acoustic and Vibration Professionals.
The course is run over a week and aims to provide the student with the skills necessary to assess workplace noise in compliance with the requirements of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.
The course is fully vetted by the Institute of Acoustics and is popular with both Acoustic practitioners who undertake Workplace Noise assessments as part of their consultancy work as well as with organisations who wish to have an in-house member of staff trained in the assessment workplace noise.
