Colin Cavers is Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Photography at
Edinburgh Napier University and is an internationally exhibited and published photographer. He has considerable teaching experience providing contextual, vocational and studio tuition, within higher Education in art school, universities as well as in participatory arts and community contexts.
He has been responsible for the development and delivery of a new BA (Hons) Photography undergraduate degree, with a clear understanding of the external context and challenges in delivering a relevant and directed education for practicing photographers. Key achievements in his current role include the development of rigorous, critical engagement amongst students through a mix of challenging creative briefs, live projects and contextual studies.
As a Photographer, his main area of concern is Documentary with a special interest in India, has published books on this topic, and a variety of resulting articles and radio features have been made. His curatorial practice covers a diverse range of photographic practice, both by working independently and with galleries. He has toured exhibitions in Britain, Ireland and Australia, and written, edited and produced catalogues and publications associated with these. His contributions involve commissioning writers and organising education events connected with exhibitions. His gallery practice includes working in a range of educational and curatorial contexts with Arnolfini Gallery Bristol, Collins Gallery, Glasgow, Portfolio Gallery Edinburgh, RPS Gallery Bath, Stills Gallery Edinburgh and the British Council. He is a founding member of FOTOSPACE Gallery, Glenrothes. Fife, working in partnership with Fife Cultural Trust and is the secretary of the organising committee and exhibition programme co-ordinator.
His work is held in public and private collections.
