Biography

Dr Webber has been University Secretary since 1999. He is directly responsible to the Principal for the management of more than 250 staff covering Information Services, Governance and Compliance, Planning and Business Intelligence and School Support Services.

Dr Webber was educated at Selhurst Grammar School, Croydon (1970-1976) and the University of Wales. His first degree was in Government and Political Theory (1st Class 1981). He went on to complete a D.Phil at Nuffield College, Oxford which was later published as The Ideology of the British Right 1918-1939. Gerry also gained an MBA from the Open University.

He worked previously at the University of Edinburgh as Director of Planning, and at the University of Newcastle Upon-Tyne in Research and Faculty Management.

Gerry is a member of several external bodies and is currently Chair of APUC (Advanced Procurement for Universities and Colleges). He is also Deputy Chair of the Executive Committee of the Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA) and previously served as Convenor of the Scottish Universities Secretaries' Group.
