Breaking news: Queen's Anniversary Prize Winner

Edinburgh Napier University has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for 2009.

This is the first occasion in the history of the University that we have received this highly prestigious prize, which is awarded biennially to reward universities and colleges that demonstrate work of a world-class standard of excellence.

The award was made in recognition of the outstanding contribution to knowledge exchange made by the Building Performance Centre for a project involving sound insulation between attached dwellings and the development of Robust Details for use in the Building Standard Regulations. This recognition complements the world-leading classification awarded to Architecture and Built Environment during the Research Assessment Exercise 2008.

The prize will be presented by Her Majesty The Queen at a national honours ceremony to be held at Buckingham Palace Palace in February 2010.

Research

Our research and knowledge transfer activities demonstrate the highest standards of excellence. We are focussed on undertaking research which is directly relevant to supporting sustainable economic growth in Scotland and in other countries. Our activities cover all of the priority sectors which have a direct and immediate economic impact and in many of these areas we are world-leading.

We are also leaders in the transfer of knowledge from our applied fields of research, to industry and commerce at both at home and abroad. We engage, not only with major companies, but also small and medium sized businesses and assist in the process of innovation, company growth and surplus generation essential for the development of a strong and vibrant Scottish economy.

We do this through innovative structures and collaboration exemplified by the "2kT+" project - a truly original collaboration between Edinburgh Napier University and local regional educational institutions, which effectively aligns the institutions' expertise with the present and future needs of the small and medium sized business sector, which is so critical to the growth and wealth creation necessary to maintain the future quality of life in 21st century Scotland.
