Professor W. Ronald McQuaid is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS); Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA); Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (FRSA)
Professor McQuaid's recent research has been on employment, employability, local labour markets, transport and development, social inclusion, travel to work, partnerships, entrepreneurship and local economic development strategy. In addition to his academic publishing, he has been a consultant for various national and local government agencies, the European Commission, private firms and third-sector organisations.
He set up the MSc in Local Economic Development as part of a consortium and ran it at Napier University until recently. He received his BA from Lancaster, his MSc(Econ) with distinction from the London School of Economics and his PhD from Harvard University. Professor McQuaid is on the Editorial Board of the World Review of Science, Technology and Sustainable Development (WRSTSD), and the World Review of Entrepreneurship, Management and Sustainable Development and a guest editor for special editions on a number for journals (including Scottish Affairs, Annals of Regional Science and Urban Studies).
Prof McQuaid was funded by the New Zealand Bilateral Research Activities Programme, part of the International Science and Technology (ISAT) Linkages Fund of the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology, and Royal Society of New Zealand to carry out a visit to the University of Otago in February 2009.
