The Scottish Centre for the Book
SCOB - The Place for Book Research
Welcome to the Scottish Centre for the Book, housed within Edinburgh Napier University based at Craighouse Campus.
The Centre was established in 1995 and acts as a focus for research and knowledge transfer in publishing, the material book and print culture. Since 2006 the Centre has attracted over a million pounds in research funding from various sources including the AHRC, ESRC, British Academy and the Carnegie Trust.
This Centre is about more than books, more than Scotland and more than history.
We undertake a range of commissioned research on the social and economic aspects of the publishing industry and on the creative industries in general. Our aim is to enhance and promote the study of print culture in all its forms. Print culture is a young field, international in scope and interdisciplinary in nature, which has advanced rapidly over the past twenty years to the forefront of academia to become the most dynamic and exciting field of studies currently developing in the area of the humanities. Our aims are to:
- Inform Policy
- Add to Knowledge
- Create Resource
- Engage the Public
