Research Output
Development of new standards for sound insulation for new housing in Scotland.
During the last 20 years minor amendments have been made to the technical design details for the Scottish Technical Standards for new build attached homes, under Section 5: Noise (formerly Part H). In 2007-08 a major research project was undertaken by RMP Acoustics based at Edinburgh Napier University on behalf of Scottish Building Standards division to investigate possible amendments to the sound insulation performance criteria for airborne and impact sound insulation. In addition, new technical design details were then provided as guidance for developers, house builders and architects. This paper will provide an overview of the new performance criteria, the new types of separating wall and floor constructions required and the step changes to the previous technical guidance design details
