An analysis of Edinburgh & Montreal's Urban Place
With the aid of a research grant from The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland, I travelled to Montreal (Canada) on two occasions in 2010 to undertake interviews and field research relating to Montreal’s urban redevelopment strategy and existing structure. Below is an extract from the application project summary.
“A collaborative team of Will Titley, Designer and Lecturer in Design at Edinburgh Napier University and Dr Juliette MacDonald, Lecturer in Cultural and Visual Studies at Edinburgh Collage of Art, in conjunction with Edinburgh City Council, are engaged in a research project to study a unique urban design initiative by the City of Montreal, Canada. They will investigate whether this approach can be employed in Edinburgh to adapt and organise the city’s streets. The aim is to provide greater cultural and historical context, empathy for the environment and the urban dweller’s experience of that environment. ”
