Dryport
SEStran is the regional transport partnership in the South East of Scotland.  TRI is working with SEStran to study the role of dryports - inland container facilities that support the Scottish ports - primarily at Rosyth and grangemouth. The dryport project is part of a much wider European initiative funded to the tune of 4.8 million Euros.TRI is focusing on collecting data relating to freight movements into and out of Scotland, including the routes taken, and the value and kinds of cargo. This information is then used to predict how usage patterns might change in the future and what sort of facilities will be needed to accommodate the predicted flows. One of the most important aspects of the Dryport Project is the shifting of cargo between different modes of transport, from sea and roads to rail and inland waterways. The project is typical of TRI’s multidisciplinary approach - putting together teams that can address real-world problems and provide appropriate solutions across complex integrated transport networks.
