Lighting of the Edinburgh Closes
Edinburgh World Heritage is a charity set up with the purpose of protecting and enhancing the historic sites of Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns in keeping with its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Although a World Heritage Site, Edinburgh’s Old Town is still home to a very large number of residents and small businesses. The architectural conservation requirements of this historic environment means that the local residents often have little say in the aesthetics and design of urban realm spaces.

This project aims to explore how the residents of historic closes (alleyways) leading off the Royal Mile can be involved in community co-design of the statutory street lighting for these areas of the World Heritage Site.
