Micro-phonics
Micro-phonics Software Ltd has developed “Pronunciation Coach” an English literacy instructional software program focusing on pronunciation, which has been successfully piloted at Glasgow City College.
The aim of the project is to improve the benefit derived from using the tool by producing and integrating animations of real people pronouncing selected sets of phonemes words and phrases and synchronising this with the product’s lesson content.
Combined with other features of the product it is hoped that such animations will help students with mouth shape, jaw and tongue positioning when pronouncing key sounds. A suitably qualified person e.g. a speech therapist, will recite selected content used within the software, and images of this will be captured via ultrasonics. These images will be converted into animations, which in turn will be integrated into the software. The effectiveness of the animations will then be evaluated.
