Social and Emotional Education & Development (SEED)
The need for robustly evaluated social interventions - In Scotland, primary schools are encouraged to include programmes for promoting emotional and social development, in line with the Curriculum for Excellence. However, to date there is little rigorous evidence to
support social interventions and government initiatives and a lack of robust evaluation of school initiatives in the UK. Thus, there needs to be a focus on translating this policy into practice through appropriate and rigorous evaluation of promising interventions and the
development of a rigorous evaluation evidence base. Furthermore, the importance of assessing school and pupil need and producing a tailored intervention approach is currently being overlooked in Scottish educational practice.
