Through its staff and students, the School of Computing is engaging in a wide range of research by working with industry, public bodies, and international academic teams.

Centre for Algorithms, Visualisation and Evolving Systems

Research in the Centre for Algorithms, Visualisation and Evolving Systems includes evolutionary swarm robotics, information visualisation, interactive graphics and simulation, optimisation and learning and software systems.

Centre for Computing Education Research

The Centre for Computing Education Research is managed by the Head of School and is the focus for a wide range of pedagogic research undertaken in the School of Computing. Our research areas include education, employability and pedagogy.

Centre for Distributed Computing, Networking and Security

The Centre for Distributed Computing, Networking and Security is a large and growing research centre with 10 RAE-focused academics and many researchers. Our research areas include cyber-security, data linkage, digital forensics, eHealth, networks, smart mobility and Internet of Things.

Centre for Interaction Design

The Centre for Interaction Design undertakes research and knowledge transfer activities on new methods of interaction design and new paradigms and modalities of interaction within a wide range of computationally enhanced environments. Our research areas include user experience (UX) and Internet of Things.

Centre for Social Informatics

Social Informatics research relates to the body of knowledge about the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) as influenced by institutional arrangements, social forces and organisational practices. Our research areas include eGovernment, Information Science, Information Society and Social Informatics.
