MSDNMSDN Academic Alliance

The School of Computing is member of the MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA), which is an annual membership program. The membership provides a complete, inexpensive solution to keep School’s academic labs, staff and students on the leading edge of technology. With this membership, the School’s staff and students will have the latest development tools, operating systems, server software, documentation, and technical references at their fingertips. In addition, students will have complete access to these tools on their personal computers. Some of the benefits the School receives as part of this membership are:

  • Latest set of Microsoft platforms, servers, and developer tools via a download Web site.
  • License to install the software on any number of lab machines used by the School for instructional and research purposes.
  • Electronic software distribution to staff and students through the e-academy License Management System (ELMS).

Software Centre Portal

School of Computing’s staff and students can download software from the e-academy Licence Management System (ELMS), which is a software distribution Web site that the Program Administrator has customised for the School. To enter the software centre you have to login to ELMS.  For this you need to be a user, which involves having a user name and password.

Ultimately logging into ELMS will be done via the Software Portal, which is being beta tested with the VMWare Academic Program site. Until then you need a separate username and password created by ELMS.

Students on School of Computing modules get the ELMS account details emailed to them when they are registered my the site administrator. They also get a reminder email sent from the administrator twice a year. If you forget the password use the forgotten password link in ELMS. The username you use is your "matriculationNumber@napier.ac.uk".

Staff and researchers have to have their accounts created manually by the site administrator (send a request to g.russell@napier.ac.uk).

The current Program Administrator is Dr Gordon Russell (g.russell@napier.ac.uk).
