English language pre-sessional courses

As well as helping you meet the English requirements for your degree programme, our pre-sessional courses will introduce you to life in Edinburgh and UK academic culture.

If you’re thinking of studying at Edinburgh Napier, you have the option of attending pre-sessional English courses that will not only strengthen your English significantly, but will also equip you with useful academic skills to ensure success on your degree programme. 

Why study a pre-sessional English course? 

Our pre-sessional courses are designed for students joining degree programmes at Edinburgh Napier University. Whether you need to increase your English language scores for entry or you have reached the required English level but would like to learn more about studying in a UK university before starting your degree, we have a course suitable for you. 

Courses include 20 hours of classes per week covering: 
  • academic writing, reading, listening and speaking skills
  • research and presentation skills
  • UK academic culture
  • Scottish and UK culture
  • practical English
  • Edinburgh Napier University Language Test preparation

Trimester 1 study support (during your degree)

During the first trimester of your degree, you will continue to be supported in your transition to UK academic culture by your pre-sessional tutors. Weekly workshops will help you understand the expectations on your programme of study and introduce you to the following support services:
