Michaelmary from Nigeria talks about his life at Edinburgh Napier University.
“My course combines industry-relevant course work and impressive research facilities”
My strong interest in the effects that compulsory chemical productions have on the environment have led me to study Environmental Sustainability at postgraduate level at Edinburgh Napier University.
Considering reasonable factors, I dug into the internet to determine which institution best teaches the course I had chosen to study. With that, I discovered the brilliant postgraduate course run by Edinburgh Napier University, which combines definitive industry-relevant course work and impressive research facilities. It was a 'yes' from me to this institution. So far, I am quite happy being here, encouraged by the multicultural learning environment.
Owing to the tremendous course run by this University, which combines high quality staff and notable research facilities, I believe that my MSc here at Edinburgh Napier avails me the relevant skills and knowledge to achieve my goals.
“The friendly relationship between members of staff and students is incredible”
As an applicant, I appreciated the extensive support service I got from the University. With my experience so far as a student here, I daresay it is more than just that. The friendly relationship between staff and students is incredible. The lecturers are always ready to help and other students are just the same.
Due to the expertise of the academic staff of the university, every now and then I find the academic work very challenging. Nonetheless, the social life in the University eases off the strain as I am a member of both the African-Caribbean Society and the Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association’s YELLO Workshops, which focus on employability.
“I have been learning from the locals how to speak Scottish”
"Pal, d'ye like Edinbra? D'ye like Sco'lan?" - Likely questions from a native. My answer is always, "Ay. A do, pal". I for one have been learning from the locals how to speak Scottish. The people here are very polite and friendly. Being a tourist city, there is everything to like in Edinburgh city, apart from the traffic at rush hours.
Frankly, I had my expectations low because I did not know what to expect on getting here, but all has been fine so far - from getting good accommodation for a reasonable fee to having to pay for my transportation monthly. I can go anywhere in the city at any time of the day with my bus pass. Although the weather can be very unstable, living in Edinburgh is gratifying.
