Tuition fee assessments

All students attending University in the UK should pay tuition fees before the start of each year of their course. Students are assessed as either home or overseas for the purpose of assessing how much they pay. There is a considerable difference between the home and overseas rates, so it is very important that every assessment is right. To help with this, we may ask you to complete a Tuition Fee Assessment form, usually before a decision is made on your application.

EU Students:

It is normal practice that first year undergraduate students from the EU who are assessed as home students, can apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland who will pay their fees directly to University at the start of the academic year. Home students are usually all students from the EEA (excluding England, Northern Ireland and Wales).

Overseas Students:

International students are liable to pay the full cost of their tuition themselves. If you are assessed as an overseas student it is extremely important to make sure that you have sufficient funds to pay your tuition fees for each year that you will study.

Tuition fee policy

The University has a very strict tuition fees policy which states that you will be asked to leave your course and return to your home country if you are unable to pay your tuition costs.

Students can either arrange to pay their fees in full at the start of their course, set up a recurring card payment or by direct debit in monthly instalments which will spread payments over the period relevant to the academic session. To pay by Direct Debit, students must have a bank or building society account in the UK.

Deposits & discounts

You must pay a £3,500 deposit if your total fees are over £6,500. Once we have received your payment then we will send you a Certificate of Acceptance for Studies letter which you need if you are applying for a student visa. You will only be refunded this deposit if you are refused a visa by the UK Border Agency.

Early payment discounts may be available to students who pay their fees 30 days before matriculation, for more information please email fees@napier.ac.uk.
