Overview

The BA Business and Enterprise online (part-time) course offers a top-up degree for those currently in work with relevant experience and vocational qualifications but no degree. It provides an opportunity to progress directly into the third year of a degree course.

With flexible study options and practical content, the course develops your business, management and enterprise skills and enhances your career opportunities.

You can pay for this course flexibly on a module-by-module basis. This means that you don't have to pay the full course cost upfront.

This course is delivered completely online (part-time), giving you the opportunity to make a real difference in your career with a minimum of disruption to your work and personal life.

A BA Top-Up is the equivalent of the final year of a full-time Bachelors degree, delivered by us straight to your screen via our flexible online learning environment.

The course involves a combination of assessments and independent study. Assessments are practical and applied, including work-place assignments and case studies.

With work-based learning as a core element, this course will benefit both you and your employer. The practical nature of this course has resulted in many of our students gaining promotion on completion of the degree.

This course will increase your confidence in business and personal development as well as your earning potential. Throughout the course, you’ll have access to experienced teaching staff, many of whom are practitioners in the industry, to assist you in your studies.

    How you’ll be taught

    This course is delivered fully online. You can choose from three start dates (September, January, May) and typically takes between 12-24 months to complete, subject to your pace of study and module availability.

    You’re not alone while studying online. Our support team are available by email and phone to answer your administrative queries, our academics host weekly academic support sessions and are available on email, and you can access our virtual database of frequently asked questions 24 hours a day. You’ll also have access to our online library resources and IT support.

    Assessments

    Practical and applied assessments, including work-place assignments and case studies.

    For the award of BA Business & Enterprise you must successfully pass all four modules, giving a total of 120 credits. All modules are 20 credits, except where indicated.

    Within each trimester, whilst there is flexibility to work through the material at your own pace you need to be aware of the assessment dates as there is no flexibility in these.

    If there is any question regarding the authorship of any submitted assessments, we reserve the right to require students to undertake an online viva.

Entry requirements

What are the entry requirements for Business Enterprise (Top-Up)?

Our entry requirements indicate the minimum qualifications with which we normally accept students. Competition for places varies from year to year and you aren't guaranteed a place if you meet the minimum qualifications.

Edinburgh Napier University welcomes applications from current and former Armed Forces personnel and offers entry based on training and education already received while in service. To assess your eligibility please contact our UK Student Recruitment team providing digital copies of your qualifications and indicating which course you would like to apply for.  

Edinburgh Napier University is a member of the MOD’s Enhanced learning Credit scheme (ELC)

Minimum Year 3

Students would normally be in employment and have one of the following qualifications:

  • SVQ at Level 4 (SCQF 8): Management
  • Institute of Leadership & SVQ Level 4 (SCQF 8)
  • Diploma in Management SVQ Level 4 (SCQF 8)
  • HND Business with grades B at SCQF Level 8

Where professionally qualified staff are seeking entry to the programme, recognition will be given to RPL and related experience.

Other qualifications which can be mapped on to the SCQF 8 at SVQ or NQF level 4 will also be accepted at the discretion of the programme team.

To succeed on our Global Online degrees you must have access via computer or laptop to view and download written and video content. You will also need basic IT skills that enable you to write and edit document, send and receive email, find your way around our online learning environment and search for and access online learning resources, download files and use online forums.

If your first language isn't English, you'll normally need to undertake an approved English language test and our minimum English language requirements will apply. The test will normally need to be within 2 years of starting your course with us (unless you are studying online with us).

This may not apply if you have completed all your school qualifications in English.    Please check our country pages to find out if this applies to you.
