The assessed leadership group project is a chance for DLP participants to work together and identify a specific leadership or destination management issue or problem, and use the theory and practice gained on the programme to provide an in-depth situational analysis, project report, and deliver a presentation to industry leaders with recommendations and solutions.

Marion McKean, formerly of EICC Edinburgh and Diane McRae, of The Royal Yacht Britannia, two team members of the DLP 2 China Ready Group project, say:

We took a practical approach to our group project work, given that there were four of us and we had a limited time frame to complete our research then deliver a final report and a presentation. It was really important for each of us in the group to have an individual focus and from the start we all agreed that there would be no divas! We ensured that each group member took ownership of a specific area of study or research – it made sense to play to the strengths of team members”.

Brendan Miles, Digital Business Editor of the List, a team member of DLP 3 Glasgow-Edinburgh Collaboration project says:

People in the group had different skillsets and what we tried to do was play to everyone’s strengths, we discovered that Gordon was a fantastic editor, my experience lay around marketing and research so I was interested in doing that, also The List gave us a platform to go off and actually reach people, so it made sense for me to do that part, Nesta had very wide industry contacts and Laura helped pull all of it together”.

Several DLP projects have developed into industry tools and initiatives, and continue to have a positive impact on DLP alumni, their respective sectors, wider industry and destinations.

DLP group projects which have created a lasting industry legacy include “Making Edinburgh China Ready”, “Women in Tourism” and the “Glasgow-Edinburgh Collaboration” involving Marketing Edinburgh, People Make Glasgow and Scotrail.
