Biography

Alison Wood is a Lecturer and part of the Cardiovascular Health theme in the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University. Prior to joining Edinburgh Napier University she held a part-time Postdoctoral position in Nursing Studies at the University of Edinburgh alongside working as a Staff Nurse in NHS Lothian.

Her PhD was successfully completed in 2017 and was shortlisted for an NMAHP research award in the category of 'Originality of Doctoral Research'. This ethnographic work, conducted as an insider nurse researcher, reconceptualised direct patient care delivery in a haemodialysis unit.

Whilst conducting her PhD Alison continued to have links with clinical practice and maintains her registration as an adult nurse working within renal clinical areas. She holds a honorary research consultant post with NHS Lothian in Cardiology and Cardiothoracic areas. She is also a registered nurse prescriber and is represents ENU in the Scottish University Prescribing Programme Leads Network (SUPPLN).
Alison is a member of BiNE (Bioscience in Nurse Education) group and a Fellow of the HEA.

Current teaching responsibilities include programme leader for the Independent and Supplementary Prescribing programme in the school and now leads the Advanced Clinical Practice MSc programme having supported this in the role of deputy for 2 years.
