Biography

I am a lecturer and programme lead for the MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology programme (accreditation from Academy of Healthcare Sciences pending). I am also a BASES accredited HCPC registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist, and a practitioner and trainer of Motivational Interviewing and member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). I am a co-founder of the Applied Psychologists in Physical Activity Network (APPAN). My main research interest is in the application of self-regulated learning and behaviour change in health and performance.

I have been our Higher Education partner with CIMSPA since 2018. Working on mapping professional standards to our endorsed BSc Physical Activity for Health programme (The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity). This programme that aims to develop a strong workforce to drive better health and wellbeing in our country.

I have also worked with colleagues on developing the Public Health Scotland Physical Activity Referral Standards to develop more consistency in this area.

We have been collaborating nationally to develop the curriculum framework for accredited MSc Clinical Exercise Physiology programmes, and along with colleagues, I have been developing the psychology module framework to sit in this national curriculum.

As an HCPC registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist, my practitioner experience includes working in physical activity and health with adolescents and adults in the general public and in clinical populations. Additionally, I work with athletes and coaches from many sports including martial arts, triathlon, rugby, touch rugby, field hockey, motor racing (including the WSeries 2022), football, swimming, golf, gymnastics and dressage, GB deaf athletes prior to and at the 2017 Deaflympics and currently on the UK Deaf Sport Performance Advisory Group; as well as business professionals, professional musicians, and dancers.
