Dr Carl Strathearn

Lecturer

Biography

Carl Strathearn is a Lecturer in AI, he has a first-class B.A (Hons) in Multimedia (AI Pathway), an MRES with distinction in advanced animatronics from The University of Huddersfield and a PhD in AI and Humanoid Robotics from Staffordshire University.

Carl is interested in developing realistic humanoid robots and AI systems that emulate the human condition. His recent research in developing a ‘Multimodal Turing Test for Realistic Humanoid Robots’ was published in; The Guardian, BBC Science, The Conversation and Horizon. Carl is interested in the design (3D CAD), engineering (3D printing and CNC machining) and programming of robotic systems that operate in real world environments. He believes that creating realistic humanoid robots is significant to humanity as the human face is the most natural interface for conducing face-to-face communication and the human form the most effective design for traversing the man-made areas of the planet.
