Christoph studied Medicine, Political Science and Educational Science at Heidelberg University, where he also completed a PhD on cerebral Hemodynamics. After completing specialist training in General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine in Germany he moved to the United Kingdom and worked with the NHS for 10 years. He obtained his UK CCST in 2005 and was granted entry onto the GMC specialist register. Christoph is also a registered GP.
Since the late 90ies Dr. Thuemmler had developed an interest in the use of electronic communication in the health domain and is considered as one of the pioneers of eHealth in Europe. Since 2010 he has been an advisor to the European Commission in related topics. He served on the advisory board of the EU-China Round Table on the Internet of Things as a contracted expert to the European Commission and has also been involved in the Future Internet PPP and most recently in the 5G PPP. Christoph is also a member of the IERC the European knowledge cluster on the Internet of Things.
Since 2004 Dr.Thuemmler has focused on academic work and has developed strong links with the global telecommunications, IT and device industry. He has successfully delivered several large-scale consultancy projects to industrial clients. On an academic level he has been successful in grant applications since 2009 and delivered major large scale projects, such as DACAR (Technology Strategy Board 2009 – 2011) and FI-STAR (European Commission 2013 – 2015), where he took on senior management roles.
Christoph is a globally recognised expert in the digital health domain and is well connected in China and the US. He has been promoted to IEEE Senior Member in 2015 and is registered with professional bodies in the UK and in Germany. Christoph has also been serving on the BMA’s Scottish Medical Academic Staff Committee in different roles over the last 5 Years.
