Biography

I am associate professor in festival and event management specialising in mega sport events and the Olympic Games. Following a short elite sporting career in rowing where I become under 18 national champion, I pursued studies in my native Greece and then the UK where I competed a PhD at Loughborough University under the supervision of professor Ian Henry. My academic career since the PhD includes lectureships at De Montfort University 1994-1996 and Loughborough University 1996-2008 as well as my readership at Edinburgh Napier University 2008-todate. In the last 25 years I supervised nine PhD students to completion, conducted externally research to the value of £225,540 as principal investigator and served in the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 where I was appointed by the London Mayor. Since 2013 I act as academic expert to UNESCO in matters of sport policy. I speak Greek, English, Italian and some German, Chinese and Spanish..
