Dr Kirsteen Grant PhD, FCIPD, SFHEA, CMBE

Associate Professor

Biography

Kirsteen is Associate Professor (Human Resource Management) at Edinburgh Napier University, UK. An active researcher, her interests encapsulate professional, responsible, and extreme work; future of work; younger workers; leadership; and talent management. Kirsteen is currently Associate Director (Development) at the Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR), having previously served as Deputy Director of Research within Edinburgh Napier Business School. She also co-convenes the Work and Equalities in Society multidisciplinary Research Group within the University. In 2022, Kirsteen co-edited the Emerald Handbook of Work, Workplaces and Disruptive Issues in HRM. She has also led several successful grant applications and projects as Principal Investigator and regularly publishes her work in high quality peer-reviewed journals and professional/practitioner outlets. Kirsteen currently supervises three Ph.D. candidates (having already supervised three candidates to completion) and is keen to hear from anyone interested in undertaking doctoral study within her areas of interest.

Drawing on complementary backgrounds in academia and organisational practice, Kirsteen has a strong track record of leading and delivering taught, blended, and online programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, both in the UK and overseas. Her former practitioner experience encompassed senior leadership roles geared around leading and supporting complex organisational change, and she has worked extensively in the areas of professional development, leadership, and learning and talent development. Kirsteen is well networked throughout the HRM community and her complementary experience in academia and practice enables her to lead and deliver a variety of executive education and commercial offerings.

Kirsteen is a former editor of the Journal of Management Development and currently serves on several editorial and advisory boards. She is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE).

Kirsteen is passionate about knowledge transfer and helping to bridge the gap between academic research and professional practice. As an outcome of her PhD (2013), Kirsteen developed a 'Performance through People’ diagnostic and toolkit, which she often utilises when working with external partners and clients. The tool is designed around five work-related dimensions and acts as a conversational prime and framework to enable people to explore the alignment of the five dimensions within their own organisations. Kirsteen is happy to hear from anyone interested in learning more about the toolkit.
