Dr Mila Duncheva

Associate Lecturer

Mila Duncheva is an Associate Lecturer at the Centre for Offsite Construction + Innovative Structure, working on multiple industry-driven research projects in offsite timber construction, including volumetric, Cross-Laminated Timber, closed timber panels and other innovative building systems. Mila's work focuses on the Multi-Factor Productivity of offsite construction systems, and knowledge integration in both industry and academia on offsite construction.

Mila is a module leader in Integrated Engineering Design (CTR10130), and in 2018/2019 she also led Project Management (CTR08107). Both of these modules were historically under-performing and Mila transformed them into examples of best-practice teaching including overwhelmingly positive Module Evaluations, and a nomination for an Above & Beyond award. Mila co-delivers Dissertation and Integrated Engineering Design (CTR11523) where students work under the guidance of industry experts to deliver competitive engineering project pitches. In the upcoming academic years Mila will also lead on a Design for Manufacture and Assembly module with MSc and GA students in the BSV group.

In-between these activities Mila finalised her PhD thesis on a comparative multi-faceted productivity analysis of four offsite timber systems with consideration for the design, manufacturing and construction stages, at the University of Strathclyde, supervised by the University of Glasgow. Beforehand she graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) Architecture degree from the University of Kent, Canterbury and completed her RIBA Part 1 work experience with two residential architecture practices in the EU.
