I have years of corporate experience in financial reporting, financial information system and corporate budgeting. I am also a professionally qualified financial consultant.
My research focuses on corporate finance, microfinance, corporate governance, ethics and Islamic finance issues. I engage with numerous academics, practitioners, and policymakers particularly in the development of ethical and Islamic finance in the UK. I attended the Stakeholder Meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Islamic Finance (APPGIF) at the House of Lords, UK Parliament.
I have published my works in a number of books, book chapters, international peer-reviewed journals, financial newspapers and professional publications. I also sit on the Editorial Board of several journals. My latest co-edited book is on "Ethical Discourse in Finance: Interdisciplinary and Diverse Perspectives" published by Palgrave Macmillan. The book foreword was penned by The Lord Sheikh of House of Lords, UK Parliament.
I have been teaching MBA, MSc and undergraduate accounting and finance programmes. I have wide experience in academic programme leadership including active involvement in the world-leading academic accreditation by AMBA, EPAS and AACSB. I am also a Visiting Scholar and external examiner at several higher education institutions in the UK and overseas.
I promote public and community development in various roles including as the Governance and Technical Adviser of Ansar Finance Group, Manchester, and a Founding Director, Chairman & Trustee of the Ethical Finance and Investment Research (EFAIR) Foundation. The Foundation aims to advance the education of the public on the subject of ethical finance and investment, and to promote research for the public benefit in all aspects of that subject and to publish the useful results.
In December 2021, I was awarded with Chartered Accountant Fellow (FCA) by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) in recognition of my outstanding contribution to the profession of accountancy and accounting education.
