My background is as a Chartered Architectural Technologist in professional practice for 20 years before entering the Further then Higher Education sector. During that time I was a self employed consultant for five years (1987-91) specialising in the on site design development of fast-track construction projects.
From 1991 to 1995 I was a temporary full time lecturer at the Glasgow College of Building and Printing (City of Glasgow College) teaching on the HNC/D Architectural Technology course, and developing the HND in Architectural Conservation.
From 1995 to 1999 I was employed by Bradford Robertson Architects and completed a number of research and manufacturing biotechnology laboratory projects.
I graduated from the University of the West of Scotland with a Master of Science degree in Engineering Design of Buildings in 1995.
I have been a member of the academic staff at Edinburgh Napier University since 1st February 1999.
I am Past President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
