Biography

Scott graduated with a BA Hons Sport in the Community (Health Related Exercise) 1996 and MSc Sport and Exercise Science and Management (Scottish School of Sports Studies and Strathclyde Business School) 2002 from the University of Strathclyde. He gained his PGCE in teaching from the University of Dundee in 2002, then was appointed lecturer at North Glasgow College 1997 subsequently moving to G.C.N.S. as a Senior Lecturer and Course Team Leader Sport and Exercise Science and Fitness, Health and Exercise.

Scott was trained by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (University of Keele) and qualified as an EMT - Advanced (Paramedic, UK), II (Infusion and Intubation), Wilderness (R C of Surg. Edinburgh/ WEMSI), ATLS (UK and Germany), Advanced Medicine with Clinical Practice in City Hospital Birmingham, London School of Tropical Medicine/BARTS, Leeds General, Poole General, Preston General, Sheffield Teaching Hospital, Western Infirmary.

In 2004 he was appointed to the University of Paisley as Programme Leader/ Lecturer Exercise Physiology and Health subsequently introducing the BSc Exercise and Health programme. Continuing as programme leader Scott oversaw the revalidation and modularisation of the programme into the University of the West of Scotland.

He was appointed as External Examiner for University of Highlands and Islands, 2017; Validation External Examiner for the University of Northampton, 2017; External Examiner at the University of Sunderland 2007-2012; Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA); National Examiner (2002-2004); External Examiner (1999-2002); Internal Examiner (1997-1999) and member curriculum development board for subject and qualifications (2000-2002) and was an invited member of the Technical Expert Group (TEG) of Skills Active, London, and the BASES committee which developed the national skills framework for Exercise and Health and Sports Science and the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Sports and Exercise Science.

In 2012 he joined Edinburgh Napier University as a Lecturer Exercise Physiology and Health. Scott studied Exercise Physiology, Nutrition and Paediatrics at the University of Edinburgh and has delivered Clinical Testing and Exercise Prescription for a multitude of organisations including M.O.D., N.H.S. and BUPA.

As an athlete Scott has competed in many events including the Marathon Des Sables and Gobi Ultra marathons (Stage Winner), Westminster to Devizes, K1 and K2 class at National Level and has climbed a number of the Seven Summits.

Scott has worked with a number of World Record Holders, International Race (Top Ten World Ranking) winners, title contenders and elite athletes preparing individuals and groups for activities on six continents including The North Pole, Jungles including Brunei, Belize and Amazon, Deserts including Sahara, Gobi, Namib and numerous other events.

As of 2016 he has been in Desert, Arctic or Jungle regions more than 50 times and continues to participate whenever he can. In 2018 he assumed the position of Exercise Physiologist with The Polar Academy

Scott tutors in the School of Medicine, University of St. Andrews, honours year on the B.Sc.(Hons) Medicine and M.Sc. Global Health Implementation and is a member of the Behavioural Medicine Interest group (research).

Within Sports Medicine Scott has interests in the Psychological and Physiological determinants of elite performance in extreme environments with particular emphasis in Arctic and Desert conditions. Other research interests are in the fields of elite soldier performance, Nutrition and Ergogenic Aids and Cardiac Rehabilitation.
