  This article investigates the employers' preferences when hiring graduates to work in the financial services sector in Edinburgh. It is based on five in-depth semi-structured interviews with managers in the sector. The findings show that a global mentality and overseas experience are valued. Language skills are not explicitly demanded but nonetheless the interviews reveal that these skills are required and the requirements are usually met by appointing non-UK nationals who meet the other criteria.
